Membership

Full Membership in the PGS brings many benefits:

• The Society publishes The Pennsylvania Geographer, a highly respected, bi-annual peer reviewed journal with articles of interest to a wide audience. The journal is read at leading research institutions across the country.

• Each fall, the Society holds its two-day annual meeting. The meeting schedule includes paper and poster sessions of interest to all segments of the membership, workshops, organized panels and presentations by noted geographers. Members of the PGS pay a reduced registration fee to attend the annual meeting.

• You are part of a dynamic network of geographers sharing professional interests and goals; and you have the opportunity to keep up to date with new research in geography, network with academic and applied geographers, learn about the latest teaching methods and materials for the classroom and the application of geographic techniques to “real world” problems.

• You will have access to a variety of digital geographic materials via our website.

Any person interested in any aspect of geography shall be eligible for membership in the PGS. Businesses, Libraries, Geography Clubs, Honorary Societies, University Departments, Agencies, Commissions, and other organizations may also become members of the PGS.

Five Reasons Students Should Become a Member of PGS:

(Submitted by Don Buckwalter, PGS member)

    1. The journal, published twice per year, is a great way to keep abreast of issues and research trends.

    2. The annual meeting is an opportunity to present your work as a student or professional, in either a paper or a poster format.

    3. The membership list, available to members on thepgs.org web page, is a professional network of people who share your interests.

    4. The PGS provides opportunities for avocational scholarship, particularly important for people employed in proprietary or security-sensitive settings.

    5. PGS provides mid-career leadership opportunities, from organizing a paper session or field trip to holding office, that help to build a resume when a career hits a plateau.
